Comprehensive Airman Fitness Program Comprehensive Airman Fitness Program

The fact of the matter is: we all cope with varying circumstances that affect us in different ways, and we all might have to ask for help in dealing with personal resiliency issues from time to time. We must be open to the idea of getting help for ourselves when we feel that we might need it, and of encouraging a fellow Airman or family member to do the same when he or she is experiencing difficulties.
- Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, on Resiliency and the Comprehensive Airman Fitness Program (21 July 2011)

tabThe Four Pillars of CAF
The goal of the Comprehensive Airman Fitness program is to help our Airmen, Air Force civilians and family members become more resilient and better-equipped to deal with the rigors of military life. We do this by promoting the Four Pillars:

Mental:
Approaching life's challenges in a positive way by demonstrating self-control, stamina and good character with choices and actions; seeking help and offering help.

Physical: Performing and excelling in physical activities that require aerobic fitness, endurance, strength, flexibility and body composition derived through exercise, nutrition and training.

Social: Developing and maintaining trusted, valued friendships that are personally fulfilling and foster good communication, including exchange of ideas, views and experiences.

Spiritual: Having a purpose and meaning in life greater than oneself.
Spiritual fitness is often enhanced through religion or transcendence, or for others hope and strength associated with values, goals, purpose and meaning beyond the individual.
- People who strive to meet a goal or fulfill a mission are happier than those without aspirations
- Develop your spiritual resources; strong spiritual beliefs are a great antidote for stress
- When you truly believe everything happens for a reason, your stress resilience will improve
