A 1916 silver dime is recovered at the site of a B-17 bomber crash near Vostenhof, Austria, on Aug. 7. The dime is significant because the pilot, 1st Lt. Stanley Dwyer, was born in 1916 and it is believed by his family that he may have been carrying the dime as a good luck charm on the day of the crash. An 18-member JPAC team, including a forensic anthropologist, explosive ordnance disposal technician and field medic, from Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, returned Oct. 1 after 45 days in Austria attempting to recover the remains of 1st Lt. Stanley Dwyer and gunner Sgt. John Boros who were lost in the crash May 10, 1944.
